Chinese Antique Furniture

Our selection of fine antique furniture comes from all over China – from Guandong and Zhejiang provinces in the south to Shanxi in the north and Tibet in the west. Elaborately carved cabinets from Fujian contrast with colorful Tibetan painting, and smoothly polished red wedding cabinets from Zhejiang shine right next to green painted sideboards from Shanxi province.

We take great care and pride in choosing our furniture. Each piece in our collection is one of a kind and hand-picked by us personally. Thanks to our friends in China with whom we work together very closely and who know what we are looking for, we are able to locate some pieces in advance of our going there. Not only do we make sure that our selection is carefully restored if necessary, but we also take exact measurements and photographs of all our pieces.

ABOUT US

Heaven Lake Antiques is the story of two friends, two European ladies, one from Germany and the other from Switzerland, who met in the United States and travelled to China. The step from buying wonderful antiques for themselves to wanting to share them with other enthusiasts was a small one. Equipped with plenty of experience with antiques, their restoration, interior design, and arts, combined with a love for all things Asian, and in particular Chinese, the idea took shape. Situated in the Heavenly Mountain range, 70 miles northeast of Urumqi, Heaven Lake is one of the loveliest spots in China. The huge lake with its clear water, the hills covered with pine trees, and the snow-capped mountains in the background make it reminiscent of Switzerland or the Rocky Mountains. The Indian writer Vikram Seth who studied at Nanjing University for two years took the lake as inspiration for the title of his travel accounts through Xinjiang and Tibet "From Heaven Lake". We were inspired by the book and its title – and thus Heaven Lake was born.
